Marriott Cardholders Can Now Get Up To 30 Elite Night Credits, Automatically

With travel on the decline in the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, you may need a little extra boost to maintain your Marriott status into 2021, and a recently tweaked rule makes it surprisingly easy.

The Discoverer has partnered with The Points Guy affiliate network for our coverage of credit card products. The Discoverer and The Points Guy may receive a commission from card issuers. The offers mentioned below are subject to change at any time and some may no longer be available.

As first reported by The Points Guy, it seems that Marriott will now credit you with 15 elite credit nights each if you have both a Bonvoy consumer credit card and a Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card, for a total of 30 nights. Previously, each Bonvoy account could only get a single 15 night boost, no matter how many cards they held.

30 elite night credits is more than enough for automatic Bonvoy Gold Elite status, and leaves you only 20 nights shy of Platinum Elite. And best of all, your credit card elite nights are applied automatically to your account; there's no minimum spend required (beyond each card's respective annual fee).

The Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card carries a $125 annual fee, earns 6x points per dollar on eligible Marriott purchases, 4x points at U.S. restaurants, at U.S. gas stations, on wireless telephone services purchased directly from U.S. service providers and on U.S. purchases for shipping, and 2x points on all other purchases. Plus, every year starting with your first cardmember anniversary, you'll get a Free Night Award worth up to 35,000 Bonvoy points, plus another if you spend $60,000 in purchases on your card in a calendar year. Basically, it was already a very solid card, even before this rule change made it more compelling.

But of course, you'll need to pair it with a consumer Bonvoy credit card to get your 30 night credits, like the no-annual-fee Marriott Bonvoy Bold Credit Card, or the $95/year Bonvoy Boundless, both of which include the 15 elite credit nights automatically. We've covered both card extensively in the past, but generally think the Boundless is well worth its annual fee, even if you only travel occasionally.

Eligibility for a business credit card is defined pretty loosely, and could encompass everything from running a large company to driving for Uber or taking pictures to sell on stock photo websites. Basically, if you have any amount of self employment income, you could benefit from a business card to keep your purchases separated while earning additional welcome offers and benefits.
